December 3 is International Day of People with Disability but for many of our refugee clients it is not a day of celebration. Refugees are more likely to have a disability because of their experiences of conflict, torture and displacement. For many of the National Justice Project’s clients, the poor conditions in offshore detention, substandard healthcare and years of neglect exacerbated and, in some case, even caused their disabilities.
Many asylum seekers with disabilities received such poor care that their conditions worsened. In one case, medical care was denied for so long that our client now must use a wheelchair. We are fighting for clients who have suffered similar harm and neglect.
We need your help to finish the fight
