The July Issue of our Justice Brief celebrated NAIDOC week’s 50th year, to honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander survival, voices and culture. We also extend a huge thank you to everyone who got behind our end-of-financial-year campaign on discrimination in healthcare. Your incredible generosity helped to exceed our target of $200,000. Words cannot express how truly appreciative we are of your ongoing support.
This month we saw the findings from the inquest into the 2019 death of Kumanjayi Walker in Yuendumu. We pay our deepest respects to Mr Walker’s family and community who have been advocating tirelessly for justice, truth and accountability for almost six years. Read more at the Guardian.
The release of these findings is just a month after the tragic and preventable death of another First Nations man, who was held by police, Kumanjayi White. We stand with the Yuendumu community in their calls for police and government accountability to stop more deaths at the hands of police.Â
We encourage you to do your part and take action by calling out racism and discrimination on the First Nations Racism Register.
